Smokin Sam Salzone, Secretary
Smokin Sam Salzone is an Italian-born Melbourne-based blues singer and harmonica player who is also at home playing rock and funk. With his harmonica in hand and his innate ability to woo his audience with his positively infectious vibe, Smokin Sam is one mean son-of-a-gun on-stage.
Sam's main music influences are Peter Green of Fleetwood Mac, Junior Wells, Willie Dixon, Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart, among others.
Barry Bazz Maxwell, President
Resident DJ, MC, Bookings Manager
"I fell in love with the Blues in the early 80's after growing up listening to music from Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Eric Clapton. I traced the music back to the source, discovering Robert Johnson, John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters etc. Once found, there was no turning back. This passion for Blues has led to me producing and presenting my Radio show, Blues On The Hill, dedicated to 'Keeping the blues alive'. Spinning the latest and greatest from around the globe with one hour dedicated to new Australian blues.
I am very excited to be involved with the Hume Blues Club and promise you will hear only the best new blues going around".
Harmonica Player, Treasurer, Sound Engineer
I have been involved in the blues scene in Launceston Tasmania for many years as a committee member and president for the Launceston Blues Club. I had a band in Launceston Called "The Sofa Kings". We did the circuit around Tassie for 5 years, playing Blues, Rockabilly and Rock. Our greatest achievement was playing at the Forth Valley Blues Festival and also taking out the Damien Greenwood Award for best Blues Band.
My inspirations are Charlie Musslewhite, Dr Feelgood, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Peter Green to name a few. I have also been fortunate enough over years to play with some of Australia's best musicians, including Tim Gaze, Rob Grosser, Chase The Sun, Blues Bombers and many more.
I recently moved to Melbourne and have finally started to settle in. On discovering that there was a new Blues Club starting up I thought it was a good opportunity to get back to playing some blues. I am looking forward to meeting everyone around the club and am more than happy to fill any role that the club feels I am capable of doing, as I feel its not the role you have but the passion for success for the club.
